So I have a friend that shares music with me, and on top of that he gives me 'notes'...little tid-bits of information about shows, like why they're special, why he's chosen them to share, and why they're his faves. He passed onto me 6-4-78.

This show is all around fun, with lots of stage banter, and at this show Weir explains how Bill Graham got the nickname "Uncle Bobo."

But really cool is that in the second set, as space goes into NFA, there's the sound of a Hell's Angel 'playing' a Harley Davidson onstage. It's played during the intro to NFA. He told me that around this time several of the Dead's crew were riding Harley's and hanging with The Angels' Oakland Chapter. Does anyone know of another 'Harley' show??

And if you don't have a copy of this show yet, let me know. I'm sharing. =)

So now 5-23-82 is on my wish list. Who's got a copy and wants to trade with me?

They had a harley on stage during Drums in Ontario, 6-30-87. There's a good soundboard of that show circulating, and the harley had some sound effects on it. In the right state of mind, and the volume up loud, the sound will make you laugh your head off. There used to be a boot-LP floating around of the show titled "Pharting Pharaohs." (You can guess what the harley sounded like.)

hi dancinbears: I know it's rude but I'm gonna suggest it anyway: blow off looking for "Harley" shows -- I saw a few -- think about it: friggin' motorcycle engines are being used as instruments and blaring through the speakers? - it was a sign the band had strayed too far from their roots and the "machine" had take over. Do yourself a favor and keep searchin' for the music. -- I really don't mean to be rude but as a witness to that atrocity I need to say something. -- AshesRising (you've got my email so feel free to respond)

I don't need your e-mail for this one Ashes, because I don't mind your opinion. I really liked this show thou! I am not a Donna fan, yet I really liked her on LLR here. Then a sweet Tennessee Jed and Jack Straw! I am a super fan of stage banter and the boys talking and joking, so I figure any show where they let the Harley play, means they're in a playful mood. I want to hear it! I don't do the computer thing, (other than the forums) so the only way to get a copy is if someone shares. :)
So, thank you for the warning, but I want it to be part of my collection anyway.

There was a recent thread about this, so you can search for other shows. As i recall there were 2 or 3 that fit your query.

The only time I witnessed a "harley" show was 5-23-82 at the Greek. During drums, Mickey summoned an Angel on stage with his hog and had him idle the engine while they played rhythms off the beat. it was very unique in my experience and the only time in over 200 shows that I saw this.
